Halloween Horror!
I’m sure over the course of your life, you’ve seen plenty of scary movies. Those ones are pretty good, sure, but NOTHING could be as scary as SCHOOL!
St. James Collegiate is the setting for a truly frightening new movie, and it’s your job to promote it!
Come up with a poster and/or DVD cover for the scariest movie ever, one starring the people here at St. James!
I have some photos from school, of course, which you’re welcome to look through and use in your design, but you should also consider grabbing a camera and taking some of your own! IF you decide to use images from the Internet, make sure that they are HIGH QUALITY, and preferably from Creative Commons sources.
Make it look REALISTIC. Make it look INTERESTING. Most of all, make it look SCARY!
A movie poster, most often, is 27 inches by 41 inches.
A DVD case insert is usually 10.75 x 7.2 inches.
I’d love to see some of these hanging around school on Monday if possible!
Logo Feedback: DJ
This one is a little different as it does not connect with our school, but the same process and most of the same questions apply.
Logo Feedback: Graphic Tech.
One Logo to Rule them All!?
No, silly, unlike in Lord of the Rings, there is not one logo that could rule them all. In fact, you almost always need different versions of your logo to use in different places.
For example, there are actually a number of different versions of our school logo:
Depending on where you’re using your logo, you might need a different version. The one with just a letter J is more useful when the logo is shrunken, but the full Jimmies looks better when you need something big. But what about if we were using our logo on something outside of our school? If you used that logo on a billboard, would anyone know that it represents our school? What the heck is a “Jimmie” anyway!?
So you may need to add the name of the school, perhaps the address or website, a slogan, or some other information that makes sense of our logo or helps people to use it to get more information.
And you should do the same thing! No matter how great and how useful your logo is, you’ll need to place it in different places on different products, so you should be prepared with a number of versions of the logo. They will keep the same basic elements (ours always has the same colours and that nifty J) but will add elements or take them away.
Let’s start with 3! Take your logo and modify it. Add or remove information to make different versions that would work well in different situations. Show me AT LEAST 3 different versions of the same logo and tell me what each would be most useful for!
Design Intramural T-Shirts!
Ms. van Aggelin has a job for you. We’d like you to be the ones responsible for designing new t-shirts to give to intramural championship and finalist teams.
1. T-shirts that say Intramural Champions with the J in there somewhere (no specific sport logo as we’re going to use the same ones for all intramurals)
2. T-shirts that say Intramural Finalists with the J in there somewhere
The design does not all have to be on the front either if you design something for the front of the shirt and the back, just the front, the front and the back shoulders – doesn’t matter. A couple options would be cool.
Design a Division card!
This year it is St. James Collegiate’s turn for art students to submit designs for the 2016 divisional Christmas card.
Interested students should submit designs for a traditional style of Christmas card scene done in watercolours, pastels, or digital format. Pencil drawings are not acceptable, as they do not reproduce well. Designs should be formatted to fit a number 20 business envelope, which is 4 1/8 inches deep by 9 1/2 inches long.
All submissions must be in the office for the consideration of Senior Administration by Monday, November 14th, as they will go to print the following week. A $150.00 honorarium will be given to the student whose design is chosen and they will be credited for their work on the printed card.
You can do this!
