“My momma always said, ‘life is like a box of chocolates…'”

If you’ve seen the movie Forrest Gump, you know that quote and you’ve seen this spot. Through most of the movie Forrest is sitting on a bus bench right here on his way to meet up with Jenny. She was living in this city at the time.

I was really surprised to see that there’s no bench there now! I know it was a movie prop, but as such a significant cultural icon, you’d think the city would put a bench there and maybe even a statue or fake suitcase! Apparently the real bench is in the History Museum here.

This city is built around 22 public squares like this. Each one is different but all are beautiful. This city is the oldest in the state (the same state as stop #3) and is a major shipping port due to its proximity to The Atlantic Ocean.

The movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil was also shot here. Scenes for the upcoming Baywatch movie were recently filmed here as well!
