The job of the movie poster is just like that of a movie trailer, to get people excited about a movie and to convey some idea what the movie is like and what it’s about. This time, however, you are very limited in terms of how many words you can use, so you have to rely a lot on EFFECTIVE IMAGES.
While there’s only one line of text here, it’s a very powerful and effective line. And if you look at the image, it says a lot about what kind of movie this is and what’s happening. You get a pretty good sense of time & place, you know who the main character is, and you can tell that there’s some major conflict going on.
To do this, you would need to be quite CREATIVE (you can’t just copy the real poster, you need to come up with your own.) You need to be either a very good artist or really good with Photoshop. You need to be able to create something that is realistic and HIGH QUALITY (no stick figures and things thrown together!)
Make the poster 11 x 17 or, if you think you can find high-quality photos and do an extra good job, you could consider going as large as 20 x 30 or so. If you’re using Photoshop, the resolution NEEDS TO BE 300 dpi if you ever want to print this out.
